My Email Job Description Background on Southbridge Public Schools Southbridge Public Schools serve approximately 2,200 students in six schools. The district is presently undergoing extensive turnaround at all levels, with the assistance of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This creates unique opportunities for teachers and students. One example is a recently announced, long-term partnership with the University of Connecticut to develop Southbridge Schools to be a national demonstration site for successful implementation of PBIS strategies. Additionally, our district is the recipient of a number of significant grants that are allowing us to creatively redesign Secondary School, curriculum enhancements, improved culture and climate and afterschool opportunities for students. Role & Responsibilities Southbridge High School currently serves 450 students grades 9-12, in a building which it shares with Southbridge Middle School. Leadership of the high school will require close collaboration with the middle school principal and director of operations to coordinate shared resources, potentially including shared staff or faculty, and to promote a building-wide culture focused on student wellness and academic success.-- The next Southbridge HIgh School Principal will bring strong instructional leadership and a belief in building a collaborative, distributive leadership model founded in empowering educators and eliciting their voice. The chosen candidate will continue to develop a multi-tiered system of support integrating academic and behavioral interventions throughout the three tiers.-- The Southbridge High School Principal will work closely alongside the receiver to lead the Southbridge High School (SHS). We seek a passionate and insightful leader who is interested in building and then sustaining an exceptional high school that provides all students with a rigorous education that can prepare them to succeed in any college or career.-- Teacher Development and Evaluation--
    • Lead instructional staff to achieve high performance through goal setting, collaborative work and evaluation
    • Plan and lead professional development sessions, fostering a culture of collaboration and commitment to all students--
    • Continue Implementation of District Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) plan
    • Coach teachers and administrators on best practices and interventions to raise achievement for struggling students
    • Collaborate with the receiver to evaluate school staff
    • Advise, support, and mentor individual teachers and administrators to improve instruction through:
    • Daily classroom observation and feedback
    • Curriculum, unit, and lesson collaborative planning and review
    • Comprehensive and evolving professional development programming Student Achievement
      • Set ambitious goals for student achievement and growth and hold staff accountable for achieving results
      • Research, design, and align scope and sequence, and curriculum with standards
      • In partnership with the receiver, evaluate school performance data to make holistic and individual recommendations for improving instructional practices
      • Facilitate data-driven discussions with instructional staff regarding student performance and develop programming to meet the needs of all students-- Culture and Climate
        • Utilize tenets of PBIS to implement a tiered system of support
        • Collaborate with technical assistant partners and district level staff--
        • Foster a safe, respectful, and collegial climate for teachers and students that allows all members of the SHS community
        • to focus on learning
        • Support clear expectations for student and adult behavior, and establish systems for reinforcing, redirecting, and holding each other accountable
        • Establish systems to identify and provide targeted supports for students who need additional social/emotional supports-- Management and Leadership
          • Embody and advocate the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the district
          • Work with parents and the community to achieve maximum involvement in and support of student performance
          • Coordinate directly with the middle school principal, director of operations and all operations and central leadership staff to ensure SHS runs efficiently and effectively coordinates resources shared with the middle school (e.g. library, cafeteria, gymnasium, and music/art rooms).
          • Help coordinate summer staff orientation and summer curriculum development for SHS
          • Manage SHS staff recruitment, hiring, and onboarding--
          • Supervise school wide events and daily systems
          • Serve as a key member of the Southbridge Public Schools district leadership staff--
          • Other duties as assigned by the receiver Requirements
            • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education licensure for High School Principal (9-12), or eligible--
            • Master's Degree in the field of Education or another relevant field, required;
            • Minimum of 4 years of teaching experience with a track record of success improving the academic achievement of disadvantaged students. Middle and high school experience heavily preferred
            • Strong instructional leadership skills and a record of showing leadership in a variety of situations, such as academics, school culture/climate, and operations
            • Expertise in developing and implementing tiered systems of support to meet all student's academic and social/emotional & behavioral needs
            • Self-motivation, high energy, and relentlessness in meeting challenges
            • Exceptional interpersonal skills with students, parents, and colleagues
            • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
            • Belief in the necessity of high behavior expectations and consistency in upholding those expectations
            • Vision for instructional excellence that requires deep thinking and engagement from all students
            • Shared dedication to Southbridge's mission and values
            • Excellent teamwork, communication, initiative, urgency, cultural proficiency and positivity
