considered. Sign Language Interpreter Norfolk, VA (School Setting,
Travel Required) A reputable educational organization is seeking a
skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support deaf and
hard-of-hearing students within a school environment in Norfolk,
VA. This role involves travel between school locations to provide
clear and effective communication facilitation during classroom
instruction, meetings, and extracurricular activities. The ideal
candidate will have a strong understanding of American Sign
Language (ASL) and the educational context, ensuring equal access
to information for all students. Key Responsibilities: Interpret
spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa
during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and
families. Assist in creating an inclusive learning environment by
supporting communication access. Travel between multiple school
sites as needed to provide interpreting services. Maintain
confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Collaborate with educators and support staff to meet student needs.
Qualifications: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with
proven interpreting skills. Experience working as a sign language
interpreter in educational settings preferred. Knowledge of Deaf
culture and best practices for communication access. Ability to
travel regularly within the Norfolk, VA area. Strong interpersonal,
communication, and organizational skills. Certification in sign
language interpreting is highly desirable. Location: Norfolk,
Virginia, with required travel to various schools within the
