Ascend Element is revolutionizing the production of lithium-ion battery materials by establishing a clean and sustainable supply chain using recycled feedstock. Its patented Hydro-to-Cathode--- technology directly synthesizes new cathode materials from spent lithium-ion cells more efficiently than traditional methods, resulting in reduced cost, improved performance, and lowered GHG emissions. The results are lower cost, better performance batteries with fewer discarded in landfill, a cleaner manufacturing process, and a truly sustainable closed-loop circular battery economy. Ascend Elements is taking the lithium-ion battery industry to a higher level.The Director of purchasing will be responsible for handling and overseeing the procurement of goods and services through appropriate bidding processes to achieve optimum price value while maintaining superior quality consistent with Ascend Elements established policies and procedures.

• Creates and leads the development, implementation, and alignment of procurement strategies and supplier network capabilities to achieve broad business objectives.
• Develops and executes a strategic and tactical procurement infrastructure that supports short and long term strategies.
• Directs the development and negotiation of agreements with suppliers; assuring agreements are in place that encompass key program specifications and functional objectives, while mitigating risk.
• Evaluates and executes new strategies in areas related to optimization of corporate/R&D capabilities while reducing costs and improving on time delivery, quality and processes.
• Ensures demand planning forecasts are accurately built.
• Provides leadership and support to the outsourcing staff.
• Collaborate across stakeholders to determine and prioritize business strategies and support key strategic programs and initiatives to ensure critical actions are being captured, tracked and driven to closure.
• Serve as primary liaison, involving close cross-functional collaboration, with R&D, Facilities, Quality, Legal and Finance functions.
• Develop and implement purchasing and contract management policies, and procedures.
• Prepare procurement reports as a part of the monthly/quarterly close process.
• Understand existing internal capabilities and resources, developing a plan for maximizing capabilities/resources, and continuously assess for improvement opportunities based on business needs.
• Scan the market to identify and assess procurement solutions available and understand how the market is evolving.PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in business or life sciences.
  • 10+ Industry experience in supporting and implementing procurement solutions.
  • Extensive experience and proven track record of building and leading an innovative and high performing procurement and planning team.
  • Deep understanding of procurement process optimization, supply chain management, de-risking strategies, and contractual best practices.
  • Solid analytical and computer skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Outstanding team building and leadership skills.
  • Experience with conflict resolution.
