Job Description:
Position Overview/Summary:
Our Personal Lines Team is seeking to hire a Vice President of
State Management. This position reports directly to the President
of Personal Lines with responsibility for leading the entire
Personal Lines State Management organization. As part of the
Personal Line Leadership team, the VP of State Management helps
develop and execute the overall Personal Lines business strategy
and financial plan. This position is responsible for returning
better than industry performance through the development of product
(pricing, underwriting appetite and product structure and
enhancements) and distribution strategy across the P/L footprint.
Working directly with the distribution arm of the organization, the
VP of State Management aggressively collaborates in the
development, execution and monitoring of macro-level operating
plans resulting in P&L objectives, including the areas of
profit, revenue growth, regulatory management, and legal
compliance.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Consults and serves as a thought partner to the Personal Lines
leadership team on determining strategic direction, evaluating
tactical situations and formulating action plans in response to
both.
Drives innovation and provides creative solutions using analysis
required to support the business decisions.
Develops and implements business strategies to support top-and
bottom-line results. Owns the financial plan for all states.
Cultivates agent relationships to meet business objectives and
strategic goals. Partners closely with the Field Distribution
organization to execute on the financial plan balancing desire to
write profitable business with creative solutions for our
agents.
Cleary communicates the direction, goals, and priorities of PL
State Management. Leads change effectively by building commitment
in a collaborative team environment.
Leads talent; coaches direct reports on an ongoing basis and looks
for opportunities to hire, grow and retain high potentials across
the organization.
Required Skills, Key Competencies and Experience:
15+ year's personal lines insurance experience with demonstrated
success in developing and leading a State Management
organization.
Demonstrates knowledge of state markets. Maintains knowledge of
state markets and key competitors by product line.
Able to trade-off the risks and rewards in a particular situation
while also considering the big picture of company-wide impact,
industry trends, and strategic implications.
Someone with a proven track record of working hand in hand with SBU
leaders, rolling up their sleeves (if needed) to get the job
done.
An aggressively collaborative, team player with strong results
orientation and sense of urgency.
A skilled team builder who can attract, develop and retain the very
best talent.
Key Technical Competencies
Strategic & Business Acumen
Understanding of state specific dynamics and constraints.
Understanding market dynamics, competitor products and business
opportunities Financial Acumen.
Uses financial analytic principles, including forecasting/modeling,
sales analytics, P/L statements, loss analytics, trend analysis,
and root cause analysis to drive state strategy.
Knowledge of financial analysis related to pricing.
Ability to forecast and model varying outcomes.
Business Issue Identification, Analysis and Communication Business
Development. Understanding independent agency economics, business
models, and strategy.
Understanding agent business from a franchise perspective.
Able to have in-depth conversations about agency strategy and
implications on their business in a consultative fashion in
partnership with sales counterparts.
Ability to look at big picture and balance desire to write
profitable business with creative solutions to help agents close
business Leadership.
