Position Summary:
Delivers direct clinical services to outpatients in the division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Screens, evaluates and diagnoses Autism Spectrum Disorder in toddlers, preschoolers and children up to age 18 years. Collaborates as a member of inter-disciplinary team for the development and delivery of treatment plans.
Position Qualifications: Doctoral degree, (Ph.D. Or Psy.D) in Clinical-Child Psychology (APA-approved graduate program and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Psychology are preferred) with general experience in Pediatric Psychology but with specialized interest and expertise with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
This position will include clinical, research and teaching in the academic Pediatrics Department at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, with a medical school faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or early Associate Professor, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments. Licensure as a Health Care Provider/Psychologist in the State of Massachusetts is required for this position prior to starting employment.
Expertise with screening and formal evaluation and diagnosis of ASD in toddlers and children is required. Experience in research is preferred. Faculty and staff in DBP are currently active in funded research and community outreach programs related to ASD identification, evaluation and follow up in school, home and community settings. The Division currently includes two child psychologists, two social workers, a neurodevelopmental disabilities pediatrician, two clinical research assistants/early childhood educators and two administrative assistants. Members of the division are active in teaching, clinical evaluations and follow-up of children of all ages, with strong programs in early childhood, Autism, and have close ties with Early Intervention and school programs in the area, and with community and state-based advocacy organizations. The division is involved in clinical research projects and development of a new autism screening test, is part of the MA Act Early State Team, the LEND program at the UMass Medical School/Shriver Center and collaborates with Genetics (Down Syndrome clinic), Child Neurology, NICU and NICU follow up programs, Child Psychiatry and Nutrition (Growth and Nutrition clinic). Major Responsibilities: Performs psychological evaluations including thorough cognitive, autism and behavioral assessment of pediatric patients, determination of appropriate treatment modality, and use of formal psychometric assessment instruments.
Maintains required documentation of patient care in accordance with professional standards.
Maintains current knowledge of procedures, equipment, and supplies necessary for state-of-the-art assessment and treatment of patients and makes recommendations to the director and program administrator for revision/renewal.
Develops and delivers professional continuing education seminars and workshops to the pediatric community.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed
Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
