RFK Community Alliance has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Adoption Social Worker to join our Bright Futures Adoption Center team!

Who We Seek

We seek a licensed clinician with the compassion and skills to complete child and family adoptions assessments as a member of our adoption program's clinical team. Bright Futures Adoption Center, a program of RFK Community Alliance, has a private, domestic Infant Adoption Program and a public adoption program, the Adoption and Permanency Program. The Adoption and Permanency Program has two distinct parts, a Family Development Program and an Assessment Program both through a contract with the Department of Children and Families (DCF). Bright Futures works with children and families of all races and ethnicities, with a special focus on working with children and families of color. In addition to welcoming all types of families to adoption, we believe in providing children with access to information about themselves at the time of placement and over the course of their lifetime.

The Adoption Social Worker will work closely with the Director of Adoption Services, the Clinical Director, and other Bright Futures staff in the Family Development Program and Assessment Program.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Participate in weekly meeting with the Family Development Program staff
  • Become trained to teach and begin co-teaching the DCF required curriculum (MAPP)
  • Perform family adoption assessments for pre-adoptive families working with Bright Futures to adopt children available through DCF
  • Match pre-adoptive families with children, participate in transition planning and provide post placement support for those families
  • Enter data about families in the online tracking system for Bright Futures' families in different stages of the screening, training, licensing, matching and post placement process
  • Attend adoption coalition meetings and develop good working relationships with DCF adoption staff, attend adoption recruitment events and parties as needed
  • Supervise placements of children matched with clients for 2-6 months after placement. This includes: monthly visits (some of which must be in person), psychoeducation and other consultations with post placement pre-adoptive clients as needed, advocacy for services and other planning with DCF Adoption Social Worker


    Part-time, 20 hours per week, flexible hours.

    Who You Are

    You are a compassionate licensed social worker with experience in the field of adoption or a closely related field. You have in-depth knowledge of adoption related issues, including loss, identity, intimacy/relationships, guilt, grief, rejection and control. You are culturally aware and familiar with child protective services.


    • Master's Degree in Social Work
    • LCSW or LICSW
    • Two years of clinical experience working with children and families in the field of adoption
    • Access to a car and travel as needed
