Overview









POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator or designee, the Supv. Lab Operations - Ophthal is responsible for specified clinical and lab research activities in the Macular Degeneration Center of Excellence













Responsibilities









ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for overall operations of the lab, freezersMaintain the lab and order tanks, freezers, tubes, and other supplies as neededFamiliar with and adhere to established lab and biosafety policiesAvailable for calls as needed if freezer alarms are activatedConduct audits of all samples in freezersDocument all samples and tissues in a computerized database, in collaboration with other members of the staffPerform centrifuging and aliquoting of blood specimensDesign methods for efficient operations of the lab component of the centerPerforms data entry and documentation of data forms, questionnaires, and other clinical research materialsConduct in-person or telephone interviews and make other types of calls for the studiesCollect and maintain questionnaires and other data forms from study participantsPerform literature searches or access articles as requested from library and other sourcesMaintain computerized data files and spreadsheetsPrepare summary reportsConduct quality control checks on data entryResponsible for supervision of assigned staff.Perform other duties as required.Opportunity to participate in research presentations













Qualifications









REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in the sciences, health care, or equivalent experienceMaster's degree in medical, biology, genetics or equivalent field preferred3+ years of related research/lab experienceMust have excellent skills in using computer-based tools (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)Excellent oral and written communication skillsExcellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills required; must be a good team playerHigh level of attention to detail and organization, setting priorities, and adhering to timelines.Ability to travel to off-site locations
