General Summary: Medical Lab Technician is responsible for processing patient specimens and performing medical laboratory testing under the directionof a physician.
Essential Job Responsibilities:1. Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.2. Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.3. Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the CodeofConduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect his/her specific jobfunctions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.4. Responsible for maintaining compliance with all regulatory agencies including CLIA/COLA, OSHA, and others.5. Ensure quality control processes are completed and documented per regulatory authority guidance.6. Manage CLIA-waived Testing and Controls for the lab.7. Collect and process specimens for and perform basic and CLIA-waived and non-CLIA waived testing ordered by a physician or other licensedpractitioner8. Prepare cultures and media and operate a variety of clinical laboratory equipment for testing to the point of turning out results9. Serve as a phlebotomist for the clinical, which requires special certification and entails drawing blood by skin punctures and venipuncture toprovide samples for clinical analysis and testing10. Process and label in-coming and out-going specimens11. Prepare laboratory samples for outside labs, including the necessary paperwork12. Support laboratory administrative and clerical functions, including patient recordkeeping and preparing and processing testing paperwork13. Maintains laboratory materials and equipment and inventory14. Ensure applicable equipment is operating at required temperatures and humidity15. May also perform some limited tests for which the incumbent has specific training and provide support to other clinical departments.16. Assist with other office functions as directed.
Education: Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology programCertification: Medical Lab Technician certification as well as State Certification when applicable.Experience: Must have a minimum of one year of experience working in a clinic lab setting.
Knowledge:1. General knowledge of clinical laboratory operations and equipment.2. General knowledge of medical terminology pertinent to laboratory operations; applicable laws and regulations pertaining to clinical laboratoryoperations and patient confidentiality.3. Working knowledge of CLIA-waived testing procedures, methods, and criteria.4. Knowledge of the purposes, organization, and policies of the local community's health systems sufficient to interact with other health careproviders.5. Knowledge of the policies and procedures of a clinic sufficient to provide effective patient care.

Ability to use EMR, other relevant computer hardware and software, telephone, copier, fax machine and other standard medical office equipment.
Equipment Operated: Must be able to operate medical office devices as well as standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers,printers, telephones, calculators, etc.
Work Environment: Position is in a well-lit office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work.
Mental/Physical Requirements: Involves standing, bending, crouching or stooping approximately 75 percent of the day, walking or sitting the remainder,using computers and telephones. Ability to push, pull or lift objects greater than 50 pounds. Tactile, visual, auditory and olfactory senses intact.Must be able to write legibly. Manual dexterity and strength to perform medical procedures.
