Position Summary: Plans, provides and evaluates music therapy activities with seriously ill adult patients and their families receiving palliative care. Provides individual, group, and family music therapy sessions at the bedside and other locations as appropriate. Adapts music therapy interventions to suit the unique needs of patients and families. Provides clinical supervision to music therapy students and other assigned trainees/volunteers. Position Qualifications: License/Certification/Education: Required: Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy from an American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) approved college and university program. Current board certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC). Preferred: Master's Degree in Music Therapy. Hospice & Palliative Care Music Therapy (HPMT) Certificate. At least one year of health care/palliative care experience. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions: Work involves sitting, standing, and walking. Must possess sufficient mobility and agility to interact with patients at their eye level and lift and play musical instruments. Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment. Major Responsibilities: Clinical Practice Provides music activities as a primary tool in assessing and addressing the psychosocial needs of patients and families, with an approach that respects their culture, faith and family dynamics. Implements music therapy services that support healing, comfort, and expression. Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary team in planning, facilitating, and coordinating services especially in the areas of grief and loss. Provides emotional support and utilizes music therapy techniques to facilitate adaptive coping for patients and family members. Prepares and maintains records, statistics, reports, outcomes, and progress notes per medical center policy. Complies with hospital policies and procedures regarding infection control and maintenance of supplies and tools. Professional and Educational Accountability Provides education / training regarding music therapy services to medical center staff and the community as needed. Attends regularly scheduled supervision meetings, division and staff meetings as required. Consistently completes patient/medical center related documentation per medical center policies. Organizes and maintains music therapy supplies, donations and music library. Demonstrates behaviors that support performance improvement activities. Maintains competencies and professional development, licensure, certification or registration as required. Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities: Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
