- Letters of Recommendation are the only item that will be
accepted separately from the portfolio, however, it is preferred
that they be included in the portfolio.
- Candidates must provide three letters of recommendation; one
must be from tenured or full-time permanent faculty members, one
must be from a clinical preceptor that has observed your clinical
practice and the third can be a professional recommendation of your
choice. Print the recommendation forms via this link. The form is
preferred; however, letters will be accepted.
How to Submit Application Materials:

- Letters of recommendation should be included in the portfolio
when possible, but can be emailed or mailed per the instructions in
the portfolio template.

- Candidates must have a valid Massachusetts RN license verified
by the Mass.gov website by time of Start Date. The new graduate
nurse may apply for this position prior to completing license
requirements, but will be unable to begin work until license is
- Candidates must have graduated within the last 9 months and can
only have worked as an RN in any capacity no more than within the
last 9 months of beginning of program start.
- Candidates must have graduated from an accredited BSN or ADN
program. Graduates with an ADN will need to complete BSN within 5
years of employment.
- Applicants must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Program Summary: This position is a time limited educational
experience to introduce the new graduate registered nurse to
nursing practice from multiple perspectives through didactic,
clinical and experiential opportunities. Participates in all
didactic sessions as part of the role, as well as learning to
participate in the planning, delivery and management of direct
patient care utilizing the nursing process and adhering to the
standards of nursing practice.
Program Description: The New Graduate Nurse Orientation Program is
designed for the newly graduated nurse who has successfully passed
the NCLEX exam and has never worked as a nurse or who has less than
9 months of experience as an RN. Over the course of the
orientation, the new graduate RN will participate in educational
sessions designed to support the development of critical thinking,
professional practice behaviors, job satisfaction, organizational
commitment, clinical judgment and knowledge augmentation in a
high-tech, acute care environment. New graduates are partnered with
preceptors who have experience in practice and are trained in the
Vermont Nursing Internship Program and Competency Outcomes and
Performance Assessment (VNIP/COPA) preceptor models. New RN
graduates will orient on one unit and will be expected to work 40
hours per week on a varying schedule that may include evening and
night shifts for the length of the program.
