BSC Group, an interdisciplinary environmental consulting company,
is seeking a qualified, energetic, and motivated individual for our
Worcester or Andover, MA offices, or the NH area. Our ecological
sciences team specializes in wetland, wildlife, rare species and
other natural resources assessment; environmental impact analysis;
permitting and regulatory compliance; and GIS services for public,
private, and utility clients. The ideal candidate will possess the
- 8+ years professional experience in wildlife habitat
assessments, habitat management, vernal pool evaluation, rare
species impact assessments and surveys, mitigation and management
- BS in environmental science, wildlife biology/conservation,
ornithology, mammalogy, herpetology or similar. MS and/or PHD a
- Demonstrated experience navigating the Massachusetts Endangered
Species Act and obtaining approvals/Conservation and Management
- Demonstrated experience with local, state (MA, NH, RI, CT), and
federal (New England) rare species collection and survey protocols
and permitting programs. Successful completion of various rare
species surveys a must.
- Knowledge of specialized techniques and technologies utilized
for rare species surveys and ecological assessments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Including:
ability to produce well-written reports and regulatory compliance
documents; public hearing/presentation experience; ability to
interact successfully with clients and regulatory personnel.
- Desire and ability to mentor junior ecologists/biologists and
work successfully with project managers/mutltidisciplinary teams as
a Subject Matter Expert.
- Ecological/dam restoration projects a plus.
- Experience in linear permitting a plus (highway, transmission).
The open position is a field and office position. Successful
candidate must be able to work independently, as a team member or
as a team leader, depending on candidate skill level and project
needs. The ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel
within New England are required. The individual will work with BSC
ecologists to conduct habitat evaluations and assessments; rare
species surveys and impact assessments; prepare permit
applications; conduct complex ecological studies; design mitigation
areas; and interact with various state and federal agencies, as
well as with BSC's clients. As a Subject Matter Expert, the
successful candidate will also work with Service Leaders to develop
and refine standards and QA/QC protocols and procedures.
